SOUTHERN CHAMPIONSHIPS 2008 REPORT, RESULTS AND PHOTOS.

The Southern Taekwondo Championships were hosted by Dorset Taekwondo Association on 31st May 1st June 2008 in Bournemouth.

The Saturday consisted of 115 Poomse competitors ranging from 8th Kup to 6th Dan. There were some excellent performances including gold medals going to some BTCB National Team Competitors. SARAH AND AARON BOUND FOR BEIJING

Doncaster taekwondo stars Sarah Stevenson and Aaron Cook will represent Great Britain at the Beijing Olympic Games this summer.

GOLD FOR AARON AND SILVER FOR BIANCA AT JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Aaron Cook (Scorpions) proved too strong for his peers in the Light Heavy weight category at the Junior World Championships this weekend. In his first fight of the day he beat his Afghanistan competitor 8-3 before going on to end his next two matches early in the fight using the 7 clear point rule, Chinese Taipe 8-1 and Greece 7-0. In the semi final Aaron had stiffer competition with the representative from China and at the end of the third round the match ended 4-2. Aaron won the gold in style beating Korea in the final 12-8. Aaron is the first British male to hold the title Junior World Champion and his performance puts him in a strong position to be chosen to represent Great Britain in the Olympics in Beijing this summer...........more detail

GB TAEKWONDO LOOK FORWARD TO THE 7TH JUNIOR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS IN TURKEY

The Turkish city of Izmir will this week host a talented young British squad in the 7th Taekwondo Junior World Championships. The Great Britain team, including both Aaron Cook and Scott Atkinson, will continue their preparations in the run up to the event which takes place from the 6th-11th May. NEW WTF DEMONSTRATION TEAM

For the first time the World Taekwondo Federation will form a WTF Taekwondo Demonstration Team composed from Koreans and Non-Koreans. There have been various demoteams from Kukkiwon and other organizations but all of them have Korean members only. The new demonstration team shall encourage less developed taekwondo member national associations to actively promote taekwondo within their respective countries. GB TAEKWONDO RETURNS FROM EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIPS WITH FOUR MEDAL HAUL

Great Britain returned today from a successful European Taekwondo Championships in Rome where they won 2 silver and 2 bronze medals at the 4-day event, which took place at the Piazzale dello Sport in the Italian capital. Britain, who only took 8 athletes to the event due to the unsanctioned introduction of electronic point scoring equipment, have never before obtained 4 medals at the senior European Championships. This haul complements the excellent achievement of the junior team who were last year ranked second overall at the Junior European Championships.

MEDALS AT BELGIAN OPEN FOR BRITISH CLUB PLAYERS

As well as the medals won by the British Team, five other Brits earned themselves a podium place. Sophie Threlfall took silver in the Senior Female Fin division as did Dominic Brookes in the Senior Male -54 division. Lottie Roberts, Stephanie Allen and Iqubal Bola all won bronze in their weight divisions.
